In late late November 2024 we were on a river boat travelling down the Mekong, from Chau Doc in Vietnam to Phnom Penh Cambodia, when I suddenly felt moved to scribble down a jingle about pigs speaking French. This was immediately followed by four lines about three-toed sloths, and the animalisms kept coming. Then a collection of limericks was added to the mix, followed by assorted light verse. I decided it would be fun to add some illustrations, and Thalia, my pastoral muse, obligingly presented me with the title. What more can I say? Only that I hope some of these pages might raise a smile. After all, as the Greeks realised very early on, you either laugh at the world’s absurdity, or it is likely to reduce you to tears.
